Reverse parking is one of the hardest elements of driving. It requires fine motor skills, keen spatial awareness, and expert judgment of distances. Learning it is a difficult process for beginner drivers, and doing it under pressure when you’re holding up traffic is even worse. And that’s just for a car – when you’re driving a larger vehicle like a truck or motor home, or towing a caravan, then it’s even harder to get things right. Your mirrors can distort distances, and are often unreliable at night, either showing you pitch darkness or blinding reflections of headlights.

Fortunately, rear vision cameras make the whole process considerably easier. A rear vision camera kit involves a camera that’s attached to the back of the vehicle, giving you a good clear look at what’s behind you (even at night). There’s also a monitor that you can clearly see from the driver’s seat, which has distance markings that let you know how far away you are from obstacle. Say goodbye to dents caused by misjudging the distance a fraction – the software in the monitor will keep you safe and well-positioned.

Reversing cameras work well for larger vehicles, including trailers like caravans. A caravan rear view camera is especially important, as it helps you get a sense of where your trailer is relative to where you are. Truck rear vision systems also are a substantial benefit, and help to compensate for a truck’s lack of rear vision mirrors. Reversing camera kits are excellent for beginner drivers who are still a bit sketchy on the finer points of reverse parking, but they’re also an important safety measure for more experienced drivers who drive a lot. The more you drive (and reverse park), the greater your chances are of eventually having an accident, and a rear vision camera can help avoid a costly bump.
